Here’s a tip for #SocialMediaSunday – don’t skimp on your hashtags! Posts with hashtags can get more than TWICE the views, including from people WHO DON’T ALREADY FOLLOW YOU.
On Instagram many posts get more views from people who don’t follow the page than from those who do, thanks to hashtags.
Hashtags are essential on Instagram, X, YouTube, Tumblr, and TikTok, and useful even when sites use them less like Facebook and LinkedIn.
If you are a local business (vs. online only), use hashtags that include your location, like #personaltrainernyc or #taxaccountantportland, or #nyc and #portland. This helps the sites categorize your posts and show you to people in your area.
Where to get hashtag ideas for your posts
You don’t have to look far, since most social sites will give you hashtag ideas — plus useful info on their popularity — while you type. Here’s Facebook showing me that there are over 5K posts for #SocialMediaSunday.
